Hello everyone, It's really been a long time since I've been trying to fix this problem on Xorg. My numpad only works as a mousepad (kind of) so I can't use numbers (when numlock is activated) or other keys like home, left, down, up etc. I already tried : - the "shift + numlock" keybinding - Already checked my xorg.conf and my 00-keyboard.conf- Already checked the archwiki or everywhere for fixing this (but I accept anyway possible links that could provide the fix for this problem)-I swapped my "XkbModel" from pc105 to pc104 but since it didn't work I went back to pc105
First, I noticed plasma-wayland does not differentiate between numpad-ANYTHING between the regular ANYTHING key (in plasma settings) for keyboard shortcuts. I.e. my old shortcuts to arrange windows via meta+KP_[1-9] (or the corresponding KP_X with numlock off) do not work anymore, and trying to re-set the shortcut keys reveals plasma thinks I've pressed meta+[1-9] (which has totally different functions assigned to them) - or, again, with numlock of, the corresponding regular (non-kp) key is detected. Curiously, xev still detects the keys correctly (KP_1-9, KP_Next, KP_Home etc..).
Fix numpad in linux
So, my keyboard layout now works correctly, but the numpad shortcuts still don't work. That's sadly crucial for me since my workflow depends on shortcuts in the numpad (but not on the "regular" keys).
Problem 1: Using numpad keys to switch view (top, bottom, right, left, front, back) does not work. However, when clicking "camera" and selecting one of them, they DO work. Even more confusing, not only do they work there, but they indicate that the Numpad numbers are indeed the correct shortcuts. They just don`t work. Instead, they`ll gradually pan my viewport (8 = pan up, 2= pan down, etc., like arrow keys)
Tried it in 2022.12, but still no change from perspective to orthographic when pressing numpad 5, and still no different views when pressing those numpad keys. Some keys do work though, such as numpad 7 and numpad /
The NumPad is working with asus-touchpad-numpad-driver implementation from GitHub. Be sure to install python-libevdev and i2c-tools before starting systemd's service, otherwise this script will not work.
Did you purchase a laptop or a mini-keyboard and find yourself missing your numpad? Many Windows applications work better with a numpad, and it can be easy to underestimate its use until its gone. But not everyone wants a full-size keyboard, and very few laptops come equipped with numpads.
Still, there are plenty of ways to use a numpad on your computer, even if your keyboard doesn't have one. Windows offers built-in solutions, and additional options exist outside your PC as well. If you need a numpad for your laptop or keyboard, these solutions will fit your needs.
The on-screen keyboard in Windows 10 and Windows 11 has a virtual numpad that you can use. While not always as fast as a keyboard numpad, the customizable options available for the on-screen keyboard make it a worthy numpad emulator.
Now, whenever you need to type a number from the numpad, just click it on the on-screen keyboard. If you select Hover over keys from the Options window, you can also simply hover your cursor over a key in place of a mouse click. By adjusting the hover duration, you can also customize the time it takes before it registers as a press.
Numpad Emulator is one option that offers a variety of features including the ability to scale the button-size, change what keys appear on the numpad, and place special symbols using alt codes without an actual numpad.
Many laptops address the lack of a number pad by including a hidden numpad activated by the NumLock key. The numbers will usually be highlighted in a color different than that of the regular keys. If you're trying to locate them, they often share the 7, 8, and 9 keys in the top number row.
You can tell you've succeeded by the number lock key lighting on or off. Now, the alternate color keys will function as the numpad for your laptop. Just remember to turn number lock off afterward using the same key combination.
NumPad supports Windows as long as you use a VNC server such as TightVNC to connect to your computer. While the iOS app does cost a small amount, it's still cheaper and saves more space than an external numpad.
If you need to use a numpad a lot, you may want to buy an external numpad. External number pads are exactly what they sound like: a small numpad that you connect to your computer via USB or Bluetooth.
With the six numpad options above, you'll be able to find a solution that best fits your needs. Whether you need a numpad for everyday use or the occasional activity, an emulator or external option can speed up your typing.
If you're looking to buy a TKL keyboard, these solutions are perfect for you. It means you can still benefit from the slim form factor that TKL keyboards bring, but you don't have to be without a numpad.
I have Asus Zenbook 14 UX433FA which I have installed Ubuntu 18.10 alongside windows 10.The numeric keypads are within the touchpad and are supposed to be turned on by a button on the touchpad. This works well in Windows but doesn't work in Ubuntu.I have tried to search for any related problems/solutions online but I haven't been able to.I will appreciate any suggestion or help.Thanks,---ProblemType: BugApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu13.1Architecture: amd64CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOMEDistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.10InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-12-30 (4 days ago)InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" - Release amd64 (20181017.3)Package: linux (not installed)Tags: cosmicUname: Linux 4.19.11-041911-generic x86_64UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernelUpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo_MarkForUpload: True---ProblemType: BugApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu13.1Architecture: amd64CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOMEDistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.10InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-12-30 (4 days ago)InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" - Release amd64 (20181017.3)Package: linux (not installed)Tags: cosmicUname: Linux 4.18.10-041810-generic x86_64UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernelUpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo_MarkForUpload: True

But, is there a way to integrate this in the script to enable backlight when activating the numpad and switch it off when deactivating ? I can understand that this is difficult to do it universally because it seems that we have different bus numbers for the light, but can I integrate this in the script, and if yes, where in the script ?
Well actually numpad backlight is really strange, it is working times to times, no logic. Most f the time I am not able to have the backlight but once in a while, I can enable it, but I really don't know how... If someone has an idea... For the moment, I use the sticker which is sypplied when you buy the computer, but it would be better to have the light on and off. 2ff7e9595c
